They are most successful in open grain fields and prairie environments such as those found on the Great Plains. They are also stocked privately in many other states for hunting purposes. Due to their hardy nature and high adaptability, pheasants can survive and even thrive in a varitey of environments. They are one of the least threatening to native species and plant life compared to other introduced game. They have been bred very successfully in captivity which has added to their popularity.
