Ringneck Pheasant

Introduced to North America in the late 1700's, the Ringneck Pheasant isRingneck pheasant native to the Shanghai area of China. While this most widely known pheasant earned it's name from the beautiful white ring around the necks of the males, it is also known as the "Common" pheasant.

Being a popular gamebird, pheasants have been bred and stocked over a significant portion of North America, including Canada and more than 30 states. They are most successful in open grain fields and prairie environments such as those found on the Great Plains. They are also stocked privately in many other states for hunting purposes.

Due to their hardy nature and high adaptability, pheasants can survive and even thrive in a varitey of environments. They are one of the least threatening to native species and plant life compared to other introduced game.  They have been bred very successfully in captivity which has added to their popularity.

Another beautiful ringneckIf you have never before had the pleasure of seeing a Ringneck, to get an idea of what a beautiful bird this truely is you must take full access of your imagination. The striking red face of the male followed by a bright white neck band and rainbow of plumage will catch your eye before you even realize what you're looking at. As with most bird species, the females are less dramatic in color with mottling of browns and blacks. Plumage for males and females does vary greatly depending on their habitat.

At High Plains Gamebirds, we raise a strain of pheasants known as "Bluebacks." These birds have been developed specifically for the hunting preserve industry. If you are looking for a quality bird at a fair price contact us.
